Materials solutions and processing – keys to successful products

Tribology Testing Facilities

A large number of tribological test rigs are available in order to simulate and evaluate your tribological systems. We specialise in constructing test facilities to match specific tribological systems.

Pin-on disc

Sliding wear evaluations of engineering materials and coatings. Wear Mechanism & Failure Map Development. Lubricant Evaluations.
Capabilities:
Load Range: 0 - 2000 N
Speed Range 0 - 10 m/s
Heating stage

Controlled Environment Sliding wear

Pin-on-disc sliding wear evaluations of materials, in controlled atmospheres: e.g. Dry Nitrogen (Dew Point -80°C), vacuum, with heating facility.

Custom built at Sulzer Innotec.
Speed range: 0-10 m/s
Load range: 0-1500 N

Two-body Abrasion

Pin-on-disc sliding wear evaluations of materials, in controlled atmospheres: e.g. Dry Nitrogen (Dew Point -80°C), vacuum, with heating facility.

Custom built at Sulzer Innotec.
Speed range: 0-10 m/s
Load range: 0-1500 N

Micro-abrasion

Ball-cratering microscale abrasive wear test (Plint UK):
An abrasive slurry is fed into the contact region between a rotating ball and the surface of the material to be evaluated e.g. TiN coated tool steel. Wear rates are determined from the diameter of the imposed wear scar crater on the specimen.

Heli-erosion

Erosive wear properties of materials as a function of:

  • Velocity
  • Impact angle of erodent
  • Particle size and mineralogy
High Temperature Fretting

High temperature Fretting test rig heated by infra-red.
Capabilities:
Frequency: 1 - 1000 Hz
Amplitude: variable with frequency (up to 90 µm)
Maximal Load: ca. 100 N
Temperature: 20 - 1000°C
Geometries: rod-on-rod, ball-on-flat, flat-on-flat…
