Testing and Measurement Technology
Non-Destructive Testing
Our specialists in non-destructive testing use sophisticated testing methods e.g. ultrasonic testing in immersion. We develop and monitor testing procedures and support our customers in testing applications. Training in non-destructive testing is another service we offer. We support our customers with certifications and accreditations in the field of material testing e.g. for the aviation industry.

Non-Destructive Testing
Non-Destructive Testing Methods

We are experts in the field of ultrasonic testing, radiographic testing, eddy current inspection, magnetic particle inspection, penetrant testing, and visual testing. Our testing engineers are qualified as level 2 or level 3 inspectors in any of these testing disciplines. We offer consulting services and support our customers with testing instructions, testing standards, audits, certifications and accreditations. In co-operation with the Testing and Metrology group we offer training courses. We develop well-suited and convenient testing procedures for your applications and carry out non-destructive testing on work order. We are testing for the aviation industry (Nadcap-, Snecma certificates) and we are SQS certified according to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.

Ultrasonic Testing

In ultrasonic testing we offer a broad portfolio of services. We are testing in house or on-site in plants or facilities. Mechanised testing procedures facilitate automatic measurements and measurements in hazardous areas. We develop testing solutions even for complex parts. By ultrasonic testing in immersion we perform quick, automatic and high resolution series testing.

Ultrasonic testing is an acoustic procedure for the detection of material defects. The ultrasonic probe emits a pulsed sound beam, which is transmitted over a coupling fluid into the test piece. Boundary faces, like cracks, inside the test piece reflect the sound pulse to the emitter that also works as receiver probe. The time between emitting and receiving is a measure of the covered distance or the location of the defect, respectively. (Pulse-Echo-Method).

Ultrasonic Testing in Immersion

The testing setup for ultrasonic testing in immersion is a water tank, in which the test pieces and the ultrasonic sensor are placed. As the water serves as a coupling fluid between sound emitter and test piece, the ultrasonic sensor need not to be driven in direct contact to the test piece surface. This way it is possible to mount the sensor onto a multi-axis probe driving unit and to automatically test complex, preferably axisymmetric parts. All inspections, regardless of the shape of the test piece, can be performed at a high rate and with low man power. Ultrasonic testing in immersion has a wide range of applications: We are testing for the automotive industry, for the aviation and the aerospace industries, as well as for the metal and plastic processing industries.

Our New Facility for Ultrasonic Testing in Immersion

Our new facility offers high flexibility regarding the size and the complexity of test pieces that can be inspected. It consists of a 5-axis driving system with the linear x-, y-, z-axis and a pivoting axis in the ultrasonic sensor and another rotation axis in the work piece table. Thanks to the linear motor drives with air bearings, high feedrates are achieved. The ultrasonic system has two emission and two measurement channels on PC integrated cards.
