Structural Mechanics
Tests, fields of activity and experiences
We also offer standard experiments, like tensile tests, compression tests, adhesion tests and rotating bending tests. The Structural Mechanics group has extensive experience in strain gauge measurement technique for measuring the loading of machines and plants in situ. We have equipped ship engines with several hundreds of strain gauges and measured strain during operation.
Apart from the experimental approach we also use the method of Finite Elements to investigate and optimise mechanical structures. Together with our customers we decide which experimental or Finite Element method is best suited to solve the problem at hand; often a combination of both provides the best solution.

The possibility to analyse the behaviour of a component by means of computer simulations, before a real prototype even exists, has changed the world of designers and engineers forever. With the finite element method, t...
