Abradable Coatings
Abradable coatings produced by thermal spray are used for clearance control in turbines, i.e. they seal the gap between housing and blades or labyrinth seals. Following our continuous technical developments in this field, we are now able to evaluate coating performance with instrumented blades or labyrinth seals in our unique test rig.

Methods

Highly specialized technology and broad know-how are necessary to characterize abradable coatings. At Sulzer Innotec, we have developed and perfected these for over a decade.

Abradables Test Rig

We operate the world's largest test facility for evaluation of abradable coatings in turbo machinery. This facility, built in 1988, has since become the industrial standard.
