Applications
We specialise in systematic failure mapping techniques and evaluating a wide variety of tribo-systems e.g. two body abrasion, non-metallic materials wear, fluid or gas erosion, and sliding wear in bone dry conditions.

Using pin-on-disc test rigs, we investigate lubricant behaviour e.g. lubrication limit properties as applied in high speed gear boxes. This evaluation of the EP (extra high pressure) properties will allow you to increase your products reliability by a more adequate oil selection. |
| ODH of Titanium Alloys |
|
 |
Titanium and its alloys generally exhibit poor tribological properties. To solve this problem, the implementation of ODH treatment significantly increases the hardness and the chemical nature of the titanium surface. This process is currently successfully used for implant treatment at Sulzer Innotec. |
| High Temperature Fretting |

 |
Low amplitude vibration damage (fretting) can lead to extensive damage in machinery. Using our test facility, we regularly performing fretting tests up to a temperature of 1000°C for turbine segments and anti-fretting coatings. |
Methods
Instead of using standard testing methods, which often do not simulate actual system conditions, we adopt a flexible and systematic approach to evaluating tribological properties by adapting our testing methods (e.g. for testing in corrosive media or at high temperature). Thus, we have an extensive set of tribological test rigs available and specialise in rig construction to match tribological conditions as closely as possible:
- Sliding wear: Pin-on-disc, Controlled environment facility,lubricant evaluation, roll-on-roll, block-on-ring, novel ball-on-flat facility for polymer evaluation.
- Abrasion: two body abrasion and micro-abrasion
- Erosion: Heli-erosion test rig
- Fretting
