Advanced Fluid Technology

Partner for simulations of single and multiphase flows, heat transfer and structures

The R&D cluster Advanced Fluid Technology at Sulzer Innotec is highly competent in the area of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for industrial applications. Further activities include support and consultancy of customers during their product development with regard to fluid technology and optimization.

The main focus is on simulations of multiphase flows, mixing processes and flows in rotating machinery. The coupling of electromagnetism to CFD provides the opportunity to simulate plasma flows. Statistical simulation methods are being applied to flows for which the classical continuum mechanics are not anymore valid, e.g. vacuum applications. Furthermore the stresses on structural components can be analyzed by the finite elements method and if required this method can be coupled to CFD.

Since the nature of most flows is transient and the geometry models as well as the computational setups are often quite complex, a state of the art computer infrastructure is available at Sulzer Innotec. It consists of a high performance computing cluster with backup and archiving systems. The availability of various software packages assures that for any given problem the appropriate software can be applied.

Thanks to a long-standing collaboration with the Sulzer Divisions and international external customers Sulzer Innotec has a vast and comprehensive knowledge in fluid technology and its application to various industrial processes.
